Termites are often called “silent destroyers” as their presence in the home can go unnoticed for long periods of time. Termite infested timber will appear structurally sound from the outside, while inside it will be riddled with holes. Termites do not bite, sting, or carry disease. The real threat from termites is their ability to cause extensive structural damage to homes and businesses, sometimes so extensive it can cause structural collapse.
Termites are 1/8 to ¼ inches long and have soft, white oval-shaped, wingless bodies. They live underground and create and travel through small mud tubes to avoid exposure to the open air, which
can dry them out and kill them.
Termites mostly feed on dead plant material, in the form of wood, leaf litter, soil or animal dung. They can cause serious structural damage to buildings, crops or forests. Termites live in
colonies that can number from several hundred to several million.
A termite colony can be as far at 300 feet away from a structure where damage is found, making it difficult to locate. A thorough inspection will find where termites are located, the source of an
infestation, and where nests are located. The treatment process is challenging because it involves not only killing the foraging insects but locating and eliminating the colony as well.
Buggin’ Us Pest Control will devise a program using non-chemical termite control as much as possible, including baits and traps. Chemicals are used sparingly and only when
absolutely necessary, including a residual perimeter treatment to prevent recurring termite invasions.
